Freshman sire Tapiture had a banner day during Tuesday’s opening session of the March 12-13 OBS 2-year-olds in Training sale when three lots by the Darby Dan stallion sold for an average of more than $221,000, nearly 30 times his stud fee.
Sitting atop the list was Tapiture’s first juvenile through the ring, hip No. 16, consigned by S G V Thoroughbreds. L.E.B, agent for West Point Thoroughbreds, put in the winning bid of $350,000.
The bay colt’s stellar female family includes the likes of the champion 2-year-old filly Halfbridled under his third dam, while his fourth dam At The Half produced $1.8 million earner Lu Ravi.
Late in the session hip No. 257, consigned by Woodford Thoroughbreds, agent, sold for $240,000 to Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners. The filly’s female line is also very strong, with her dam’s half-sister and second dam both winners of Keeneland’s Appalachian S.
Tapiture has four lots cataloged for Wednesday’s session, including hip No. 387, who breezed a bullet :09 4/5 seconds during the Under Tack show.
